St. Johns went on the road for the third time in four weeks and came away with their third victory in as many road games. They survived a second quarter punch in the gut by the Cougars and bounced back to convincingly win the second half. The Islanders put points on the board on special teams, defense, and offense.
Raquan Washington returned the opening kick 91 yards to the house following a nice seam created by the kickoff team and blistering through the opening all the way to pay dirt giving the Islanders an early 6-0 lead. A minute in a half later the Islanders scored on defense when the North Charleston punter was tackled in the end zone for a safety and an 8-0 lead. Not to be out done, on the next possession, Tyler Durham connected with Levon Traeye for a 47 yard TD bomb. Marchisillo was true on the XP to tally it at 15-0. Tyrone Hicks exploded for a 15 yard TD run plowing through the safety to end it the proper way and with another Marchsillo XP 22-0. After one quarter, it looked as though the Islanders may run the Cougars out of their own stadium. But the Cougars proved resilient in the second quarter.
The cougars answered with their first score on a quick crossing route that turned into a 51 yard TD as the Cougar wide-out took it all the way. The ensuing XP was wide but cut the score to 22-6. The Cougars defense then stepped up with a 75 yard interception return for a TD by #10. The two point conversion was good as #1 passed it to #5, cutting it to a one score deficit for North Charleston at 22-14.
The third quarter was almost void of scoring, but Marchsillo hit a 32 yarder from the left hash to give St Johns a two possession lead against 25-14. Tyrone Hicks opened the 4th quarter scoring with a 11 yard TD run and with the XP it was 32-14. Levon Traeye caught a 20 yard TD pass from Tyler Durham but the XP was blocked leaving the score ta 38-14. Tyrone Hicks broke free one more time on a 38 yard burst into the end zone and with the XP the score was 45-14.
The defense held North Charleston to 104 total yards and recovered one fumble as well as got a safety on punt coverage. The Islanders finished with 278 total yards on offense and added another 191 in return yards. North Charleston won the turnover battle 4-1.
