Military Magnet came to Biggerstaff field 0-6 and hungry for their first win. They drove the ball down the field on their first two possessions in time consuming drives and scored touchdowns taking a 13-0 lead 10:38 to go in the 2nd quarter. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Islanders woke up in a big way and scored 54 unanswered points en route to a 54-13 pasting of the Eagles in front of a huge Homecoming crowd. The end of the game was marred by a scuffle between the teams which led to the referees running out the entire 4th quarter. The Islanders scored three defensive TDs all on fumble recoveries with Ishmael Echeverria returning one 20 yards, Augustus Frazier returning one for 8 yards, and Brown returning one for 20 yards. Tyrone Hicks had three TD runs and Tyrus Richardson added another. Tyler Durham threw a 20 yard TD to Levon Traeye to complete the scoring.
The win sets the Islanders up at 1-0 in the region and they will face Charleston Math and Science on the road at 7:30 PM on October 19th at Ravenel Stadium on Wappoo Rd in West Ashley. The Math and Science squad is coming off a 78-0 loss to Baptist Hill to fall to 0-1 in region and 1-6 overall. If the Islanders win, and Baptist Hill defeats Military Magnet as expected, then next weeks home game vs Baptist Hill will be for the Region Championship.
