Tough draw for the Lady Islanders as they went to Green Sea to face the Green Sea Floyds Trojans. The Trojans are the second ranked team in the state and easily dispatched the Islanders 70-25. Such is the life of playoff basketball, one loss and you’re out. The season ends for St Johns who loses four seniors including their primary ball handler in Sole Stanley. Sole has been a four year starter. Twanasia Heyward will be missed on the boards as she is very scrappy down there collecting rebounds. Zuriah Zepke and Asha Bangura were good complementary players who will also be moving on.

The Islanders will return current sophomores, Bernardica Brown and Nya Givens who contributed key minutes throughout the season. Current juniors, Tiara and Sierra Green and Emoni Mack will have to step into leadership roles. Current freshman, Knayja Fludd contributed and will have the opportunity to develop in the offseason.

Green Sea Floyds moves on to travel to face Charleston Math and Science on Thursday night at 7 PM.

IN other games involving region teams, Military Magnet was defeated by Cross 56-41 and Baptist Hill lost a heart breaker 34-33 to Hannah-Pamplico. It was a bad night throughout the region in this round one of the playoffs. Let’s hope that the top two seeds from our region fare better Thursday night. Palmetto Scholars will face CE Murray(a 57-32 winner over Creek Bridge).
