The Islanders scored 27 the hard way with a field goal, two safeties, and 3 TDs and led 27-14 with 11:49 to go in the game after a 55 yard interception return for a TD. Baptist Hill didn’t waver and stuck to the game plan, calmly leading two 4th quarter scoring drives finally taking a 28-27 lead with 1:50 to go on a 4th down QB end around.
The Islanders were led by Tyrone Hicks two rushing TDs including a 65 yard TD run. The Islanders received the ball with under two minutes to go and promptly drew a pass interference penalty that brought the ball to midfield. A deep throw on 1st and 10 into double coverage was intercepted by the Bobcats to end the game and the Islanders region title hopes. Baptist Hill will receive a first round bye in the playoffs and will play at home as long as they win. St Johns will open against at large Charleston Math and Science(1-8) on November 9th at home and if they advance they will travel to Lake View for round 2.
Next up for the Islanders is the make up game at Oceanside Academy in the third overall meeting between the two schools. St Johns will be looking for some revenge for last years’ 28-14 loss at St Johns. In 2016 the Islanders defeated the Landsharks 53-6 in Oceanside’s first year.
