On a cold shooting Monday night in December the Islanders dropped their region opener versus Baptist Hill 61-37. The Islanders were 15-51 from the field making only 29 % of their shots. Compounding that effort was the 9% shooting from behind the three point arch making only 2 of 23 attempts. The cold shooting even extended to the free throw line as St Johns shot 33% at 3 of 9. Baptist Hill’s trapping defense caused 16 Islander turn overs to boot and the Bobcats even out rebounded the Islanders. St Johns will look to flush this game and look forward to the rematch January 19 at Baptist Hill.
Baptist Hill cruised to a 35 18 lead at the half and didn’t look back outscoring St Johns in all four quarters. The Islanders were led in scoring by Kenny Thomas and Tyrus Richardson who both scored 12 totaling 24 of the 37 total points scored on the night. Kenny Thomas was an efficient 6 of 9 from the field while Tyrus was 4 of 17 shooting. Kenny also led in rebounding with 6 with Mikey Thomas adding 4. Mikey Thomas had 2 assists and 2 blocks. Kenny Thomas also had 2 blocks for St Johns.
On Thursday, St Johns hopes to rebound in a conference game at home versus Royal Live Oaks at 6 PM. Then on Friday another home game and a rematch versus North Charleston at 7:30 PM.
