Islanders News · Bobcats Cool Off Varsity Boys stopping their 3 game winning streak

The Islanders came into Friday night’s conference game having won three games in a row to improve to 4-10 overall and 3-3 in conference. They looked to hand Baptist Hill their first conference loss as they came in at 6-0 in conference. Something had to give and it was the Islanders as they had their worst shooting night of the season. As a team, the Islanders shot 8 of 58 for 14% shooting from the field. Even worse was their three point shooting as they were 0 for 21 for 0%!!! Free throws were much better as the Islanders as a team hit 8 of 15 for 53% led by LaRynz Givens who was 6 for 6 from the stripe. LaRynz led the Islanders in scoring with 8 points despite shooting 1 for 14 from the field. Mikey Thomas had 5 points and Tyler Durham chipped in 4 points. Because of their horrendous shooting night, the Islanders lost 48-22 to fall to 0-3 against the Bobcats this year.

The Islanders had a huge height advantage but could not keep those pesky smaller Bobcats off the boards. The Islanders finished with 29 rebounds as a team with Mikey Thomas pacing them with 11 and TJ Givens with 5. The Islanders finished with 8 steals as a team as Larynz led with 2. There were 4 blocked shots sent away as Mikey had 2, and BJ Darby and Marcus Dawson each had one. Only one assisted basket and that was from BJ.

The Islanders look to get back on track with a non-conference tilt Tuesday night at home versus Oceanside Academy at 730 PM. Oceanside likes to run and shoot fairly quickly so expect alot of shots being put up and points too. On Friday night the Islanders travel to Hardeeville for a conference matchup against Royal Live Oaks Academy who will look to avenge a 61-20 victory earlier this month by the Islanders.
